Zabeel – ‘the Superstar stallion’. This is a painting from photos I took from my visit to Cambridge Stud, New Zealand last year. Zabeel was 27 years old when I photographed him and he had only retired from ‘active stud duties’ 6 months before. I had to paint him, even though he is old man he looked so peaceful and majestic.

VALE – the Great Zabeel.

Zabeel  – sire of Octagonal, Might and Power and another 150 stakes winners died peacefully on  25 September 2015 at his home at Cambridge Stud.   May Zabeel rest in peace buried alongside his father, Sir Tristram.

His sire statistics are simply amazing ………. from the 1389 of his offspring that raced, Zabeel has sired:
  • 1007 individual winners,
  • more than 150 stakes winners,
  • 41 different Group 1 winners, with
  • worldwide earnings in excess of $170 million.

Tribute to a champion.
