Hay List (24 August 2005 – 3 February 2015) was a thoroughbred racehorse trained by John McNair in Gosford Australia.
He was a huge muscular horse but a gentle giant. When I visited him at John McNair’s training facility, he showed himself to be natural show off and loved getting his photos taken. I will always remember his race in the Group One Darley TJ Smith Stakes in 2011 when Black Caviar had to produce her best effort to defeat him.
I created this work using Derwent pencils on Fabriano paper following his death in February 2015 as a tribute to this great horse. It is based on photos I took of Hay List at Randwick on before his last race in the 1200m Premier Stakes.
