Makybe Diva was just a wonder mare – she won nearly every prestigious group race on the Australian calendar – Sydney Cup, Australian Cup, BMW Classic, Cox Plate, Turnbull Stakes, Memsie Stakes, Queen Elizabeth Stakes and of course the 3 consecutive Melbourne Cups.I love how she was named. Owner Tony Santic asked his five of his women employees in his fishing business to name his new mare. They came up with Makybe Diva – using the first two letters of their given names.The five women were Maureen Dellar, Kylie Bascomb, Belinda Grocke, Dianne Tonkin andVanessa Parthenis .
