This is an oil on canvas painting of a photo I took of Vancouver winning the 2015 Group 1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill Racecourse.
It is always a fantastic day out there but this was even more special with one of my favourite jockeys, Tommy Berry riding the beautiful bay colt.
It was also a very emotional day with Tommy dedicating his win to his late twin brother Nathan, also a champion jockey who had passed away suddenly with a rare illness the previous year. If you look closely at Vancouver’s breastgirth you can see the words “RIP Brother”.
Vancouver won 4 out of his 5 starts earning over $2,300,000 in that short time. In addition to the Group 1 Golden Slipper, he won the Group 2 Todman Stakes, Group 3 Canonbury Stakes and the listed NSW Thoroughbred Breeders’ Plate. He now stands at Coolmore Stud in the Hunter Valley at Jerrys Plains.
