This painting is a finalist in this 2015 Gallipoli Art Prize. This is a painting based on photos I took during the 2014 Anzac Day march at Martin Place in Sydney.
I was waiting there to see my daughter Kaitlyn, who was marching for her grandfather, Laurie, when veterans of the RAAF 77 Squadron paused at the Cenotaph for remembrance. I was so moved by the emotion shown by these men. I may not have been selected as 1st prize but my painting was selected as the cover of the beautiful book produced for the exhibition that you can view here.
Imagine how proud I felt when I found ‘my men’ during the 2015 Anzac Day march, tracked them down to their their post march get together and actually got the chance to meet these special people. The men had no idea that their portrait was hanging in the exhibition and was the feature of the published catalogue.
